Ithaca College examining mental health policies
Ithaca College senior Elizabeth Cady, a resident assistant in East Tower, said this semester she has had to respond to two mental health–related calls. Both times, she said she had to call the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management.
“Those situations were both pretty similar in that [Public Safety officers] showed up and were loud and very heavy-handed when interacting with the residents who were going through a mental health crisis,” she said.

Campus community responds to Collado's departure
Some members of the Ithaca College community have expressed disappointment in President Shirley M. Collado’s last year as president following the announcement that she is leaving the college.
In a July 8 email to the campus community, the Ithaca College Board of Trustees announced Collado will be leaving the college Jan. 10, 2022 to become the president and chief executive officer for College Track.
In a message to the campus community July 8, Collado reflected on her past four years — the shortest tenure of all nine Ithaca College presidents — at the college and spoke about the resiliency of the campus community.

Fall 2020 enrollment drops as hundreds take leaves and defer
Hundreds of admitted and returning students have decided not to attend the college for Fall 2020. Some of these decisions were made because of the COVID-19 pandemic prior to the college’s announcement about teaching classes remotely for Fall 2020. Others were related to student concerns about paying full tuition for online instruction.
Overall enrollment at the college has decreased from 6,266 students in Fall 2019 to 5,354 students in Fall 2020, according to the Office of Analytics and Institutional Research (AIR).
